One of the reasons that they are so popular is that many people go by their sun signs to see how their day will be. If you’ve ever read your horoscope in the newspaper or online, then you know what I mean. The zodiac signs also tell us about the special qualities that each one of us has. They are often used to help us in life with business matters, compatibility with a mate and even friendships. By having a tattoo of your sign it will make you feel more connected with yourself and your place in the world.
Another reason that zodiac symbols are a popular tattoo design is that just about any location will work and the many choices you have designing your sign. You could have a small design on your wrist or foot, or go for something more bold like having a full back picture of your sign and symbol. The possibilities are endless with these signs and they make beautiful tattoos.
There are many pictures of the symbols online and most tattoo parlors should also have them in their shop. If you want a more dramatic or one of a kind tattoo, you can search the online design galleries for an idea. Take your time when choosing your design and where you want to have it on your body. If you make a hasty decision, you may see something you like better and wish you would have waited. Zodiac designs are a great choice as you can show your sign with just a simple symbol, or go all the way with a knock out tattoo.

Zodiac Tattoos Designs
People have been interested in the celestial bodies from ancient times, not only because the stars and planets were are source of wonder, but also because of the belief they influenced behavior and destiny. It is not hard to understand why early man worshipped the sun and the moon. They appeared to be alive – one appearing by day and one by night. The sun provided light and warmth; the moon gave light in the darkness.
The Zodiac signs we have today have changed little since the Greeks devised their names around 2000 years ago. This long history means Zodiac images have been drawn thousands of time by thousands of artists. Tattoo art has been part of this evolution, which means there is a great array of designs from which to choose.
Western Zodiac Signs
Most of us are familiar with the 12 Greek/Roman Zodiac signs. Most lend themselves to tattooing. There are some pictures you may not want, for example a picture of a crab for Cancer. But you could still have the symbol if you want to connect to your sign.
The choice is to have an image, such as the Water Carrier, for Aquarius or, the equivalent symbol, which are two parallel wavy lines, or the image of a ram for Aries or the outline of a ram’s head and horns. It really depends upon how you want to express yourself. A full image can be detailed or colorful and obvious, whereas a symbol can be understated and minimalist.
Whatever zodiac tattoo you choose it can still connect you to you star sign.
Chinese Zodiac signs
The Chinese Zodiac has 12 signs also- the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Lamb, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. They run over a 12-year cycle rather than a 12-month one. Your sign is determined by the year of your birth rather than the month. The Chinese believe the animal of that year has a strong influence on the people born in the same year. It is said the people take on the characteristics of the animal. Like western astrology, certain personality or character traits are given to each person born under a particular animal.
Your Zodiac tattoo could be a little more exotic and mysterious with the image of the animal of your birth or the Chinese character representing it.
Japanese Zodiac Signs
The Japanese have followed the Chinese in that the signs and the cycle are the same but, of course, the language is different. You do need to be aware the words used to describe the signs are written in traditional Japanese. This means the meaning could change using Kanji. For example, Bull could be turned into Cow, not quite the same image.
A tattoo with a Japanese Zodiac symbol could be different and a good talking point.
With the number of choices available there is no reason why your Zodiac tattoo could not be decorative and meaningful, with maybe a touch of the exotic.

Zodiac Tattoo
Zodiac tattoos have combined ancient beliefs with modern design for many years. For as long as people have been looking at the stars, they have been searching for meaning within them. Zodiacs are just one example of this. Many cultures, including those within China, Persia and India, have zodiacs that have been around for thousands of years. There is also evidence that the cultures of pre-Columbian North America, such as the Maya, the Incas and the Aztecs developed zodiacs based on their own celestial observations.
Zodiac Tattoos
The zodiac that most people are familiar with is what is now called the Western Zodiac. The western zodiac has its roots in the Helenistic period of Greek culture, and was adopted by the Romans soon after conquering Greece. The Romans renamed the Greek gods within the zodiac and gave the zodiac signs the names that we are all familiar with – Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
Each Zodiac sign has a corresponding timeframe on the calendar as well as a corresponding planet. This timeframe is based on the movement of the sun through the stars of the zodiac. In addition to this, the zodiac signs are each assigned a physical element of fire, water, earth or air. The English translation of each Roman name also serves as a corresponding symbol such as a ram, scales or an archer. (See Below)
Zodiac tattoos have followed in the path of zodiac tradition in many ways. Some people use their zodiac signs and symbols as tattoo designs. A person born in the sign of Scorpio may have several tattoos that include a scorpion in the design. Many people incorporate various aspects of their and their loved ones zodiac signs without using the obvious symbols. The elemental symbolism such as fire, water, air and water can be included in any tattoo in any number of ways. Someone born in a fire sign may incorporate flames in their tattoos, or someone born in an earth sign may include natural elements such as plant life in many of their tattoos.
